OSU

Purpose and location of the observatories

OSU are original territorial structures having the principal mission of “organizing the means required for accomplishing observations of astronomic systems or components of the planet Earth”. Located within university centres, they have the statute of an internal school or major institute and constitute interdisciplinary units. They are directed jointly by the CNRS, the university and, in several cases, by other establishments or research organizations. At the local level, OSU implement various long-term projects in the context of national observation services and encourage interdisciplinary research. They notably facilitate access to the major research infrastructures as well as to experimental or numerical platforms of regional or national interest.
